Activities Program

The Ladies Home has a full-time Activities Director who plans a full activities calendar each month aimed at providing:

  • socialization through group activity, discussion, and general participation in the programs
  • maintenance of daily living skills to encourage independent functioning
  • physical activity to stimulate movement, coordination, and strength
  • educational opportunities for maintenance of intellectual function
  • personal worship opportunities and spiritual life
  • opportunities for volunteering and service to others
  • attendance at community programs and events outside the facility

Residents' varying levels of physical and intellectual function are taken into consideration when developing the activities calendar.

New residents are interviewed by the Activities Director about their interests and abilities, and are encouraged to renew interest in formerly enjoyed pursuits.  Special encouragement and prompting are given to residents who may not at first choose to participate on their own. Residents are particularly encouraged to participate in holiday commemorations and decorations, and in other special celebrations. Invitations are extended to family and friends whenever possible to enhance residents' enjoyment.

The Home has formed partnerships with many institutions in our neighborhood. Local churches conduct services in the chapel for our residents, and neighborhood schoolchildren visit to entertain the ladies and provide them with the joy of being around children.
